Oprah Winfrey is cleaning house and taking names.  The media magnate 1st cancelled the struggling 'The Rosie O'Donnell Show', last week, now other heads are set to roll as well.  Sources say that approximately 30 people were given pink slips including 2 high level executives.  The head of the Creative Services Department was one of the execs let go as was the Senior Vice President of Production.  It seems that Oprah is in a restructuring mode to stave off the networks low ratings.
"The economics of a start-up cable network just don't work with the cost structure that was in place," Winfrey said in a statement. "As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network."

The staffers that were laid off are located in New York and Los Angeles, where the company has its production offices.


I have to admit that I tried to give OWN a chance, but the programming just doesn't hold my attention.  There are a few gems on the channel, but they are few and far between.  Hopefully these firings will jump start the network by bringing in some fresh blood to move OWN in a different direction.
