This poor little boy was chewed to death by his neighbor’s dogs, now local residents are calling for a ban on pit bulls in their neighborhood.
A four-year-old boy was found dead after being mauled to death by up to five pit bulls.
Kylar Johnson’s body was found in a neighbor’s back yard the morning after he wandered away from his home in Victoria, Texas, as his father cleaned the car.
More than 100 volunteers joined police and search dogs from across the state in a 13-hour search before the neighbor found the child’s body at 10.45am.
Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O’Connor said the indications were that one pit bull mauled and killed the youngster, but today’s autopsy has been ordered to discover if more dogs were involved.
The animal thought to be responsible for the savage attack – one of five owned by a neighbor of the Johnson family – has been quarantined, said local news channel Crossroads Today.
Distraught relative John Scoruppa said: ‘Even though he was only four years old, he was the heartbeat of the family; a happy, active youngster who loved adventure.’
‘Our worst fears have been realized,’ added close family friends. ‘He loves puppies, and he got mauled by dogs
The sheriff told a press conference last night: ‘This is a very unfortunate circumstance I have to report to you today.
‘I was in hopes that our search would become fruitful and we found the young child alive. Unfortunately, we did not.’
Controversy is now brewing over whether aggressive breeds of dogs should be allowed in the suburban area.
Neighbors say there are 15 to 20 aggressive pit bulls and Rottweilers living on the stretch of road where the toddler was found.
Search volunteer Terri Ellis said: ‘Pit bulls, Rottweilers, dogs that are born and bred to be aggressive; we don’t need them. There are too many other ways to protect your property.’
An autopsy for Kylar, who would have turned five in April, will take place today at the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
